Abdullah started work as a barber in Palestine and finished his working life as a barber in Lebanon. In between he led a fascinating life which he describes in this interview: how he was a soldier in the British army, and deserted when he was sent to fight in the Battle of El Alamein, later joining the British Mandate police under an assumed name. Today, Abdullah lives with his wife in the Beka’a Valley, in northeast Lebanon, where many of his relatives also live.
