Kamleh was the daughter of the mukhtar, the village head of Salha. In her interview she mentions Circassian soldiers in the Arab army who promised the villagers that they could leave in safety. The men of Salha managed to capture weapons from the Israeli soldiers, to defend their village. During the invasion of the Israeli army Kamleh remained with the men when they were separated from the women; she was especially close to her brother and decided to stay with him. She describes how she then witnessed a massacre which left her brother fatally wounded. Kamleh sat beside her dying brother for four days until her mother managed to find her. Today, she lives in Beirut, in Dahiyyeh, a poor neighbourhood which includes various Palestinian refugee camps.
