Meriam Othman tells the story of the attack on her village and the demolition of her home. She lay under the rubble for a whole night. Her younger brother and baby sister did not survive.

Meriam is the daughter of the mukhtar, the village leader of Husseiniyeh. As a child Meriam played with the children of Jewish settlers who had come to live near the village. Until the war broke out, Jews and the Palestinian inhabitants of Husseiniyeh lived side by side without any incident.
