Since the fall of 2010, the NA has developed a proposal with the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Arab Resource Center for Popular Arts (ARCPA) to create an online database for Palestinian Oral History through Jafet Library (AUB). In order for the oral history collections of the NA and ARCPA to be accessible, a partnership between IFI, NA and ARCPA will 1) index the recordings with searchable keywords, 2) digitize the material so that it can be easily preserved and accessed, and 3) produce a catalogue that will be placed on an online server at AUB. The catalogue will initially be accessible to researchers at AUB, and linked with other relevant departments at AUB such as the Department of History, the Center for Arab and Middle Eastern Studies (CAMES), and the AUB Library. The ultimate aim is to link the database at AUB to other universities in the region and abroad, and to other oral history archives around the world. The Heinrich Böll Foundation will fund the first digitization stage of the project. The current time frame for completing this project is two years.
